HOW TO IMPROVE GAS MILEAGE BY NOT USING ANY

The First Fuel Friendly Fundamental: Your car uses the least amount of gas when it's parked, with the engine off, of course.

Obvious?

Few people understand the art of how to improve gas mileage by not using any. Just look around your neighborhood and you'll see people leave, come home, leave, come home, leave, etc. And this happens in the space of a single afternoon.

You may be doing the same thing (tsk, tsk). A lot of people do.

Planning is a great way to improve the fuel economy of your car. Planning can be as simple as keeping a list of errands on your refrigerator door. In fact, it is that simple.

Keep the list posted in any convenient place and use it.

Plan one or two errand days a week. Plan them when you already have to be out for another occasion. Okay, sometimes you get called out on unplanned errands; that's often a good time to take your list with you and just change your errand day.

In addition to the note pad you have three more valuable planning tools; your computer, your phone, and the yellow pages. You save both time and gas when you use the yellow pages and your phone to call and ask about availability and price of an item you're after.

E Shopping in another excellent way to save gas if you're hooked up on the internet (which you obviously are because you're reading this). You can take shopping a step further with your computer and do most of your ordering on line.

Many brand name stores offer free shipping and sometimes better prices and selection than you can find at the mall. When you find those bargains you save on price, you save on shipping, and you keep that car parked consuming zero gas. That's perfect fuel economy. Win, win, win.

By now, the notion of improving gas mileage by not using any should be making better sense. And it really is easy.

Planning errands saves gas twice. You save because you eliminate the wasted miles repeatedly running to and from your house. You also save because your engine stays warmer when you do all your errands at once; and warm engines use less gas than cold engines, a lot less.

Here's another way planning can save gas. Next time you move, try to move closer to work. Living close to work may be the single biggest gas saver. The closer you live to work, the less time you spend burning up expensive gas; and as a bonus, the more time you have to live your life outside of work.

Okay, let's talk about carpooling. I know; you just knew this was coming, but hear me out, okay? First, this link will take you to "A Different Kind of Carpooling" , where you’ll find some great information about drastically reducing the amount you spend getting to work and back.

Now, let’s talk about other carpooling opportunities. Consider, for example, car pooling with friends, family, and neighbors to do errands, or go to the mall, or grocery shopping. That kind of car pooling can turn mundane chores into social events.

All it takes is a little planning.

In fact, any activity outside of your home that involves transportation can present a carpooling opportunity. Date night can become double date night. Matinee movie time can be group matinee movie time. And so on.

It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see that you have countless opportunities to save gas, and actually increase your enjoyment of your leisure time activities.

And it was made possible because you discovered how to improve gas mileage by not using any.
