ENERGY SECTOR SALES POSITIONS
Sales positions in the energy sector are some of the most lucrative opportunities around. If you have average intelligence, a passion for a product, and lot of drive, you might want to consider a career in sales.
Every product in existence needs motivated sales people to make it successful, and that includes energy products.
When salespeople make products successful, they often make themselves wealthy.
Can you be a salesperson?
The good news is that you don’t need a degree to get started. Open the classified section of your local newspaper and you’ll see plenty of sales positions.
There are a lot of sales positions because selling is more work than most folks ever think about, until they try selling for a living.
On the other hand, some of the most successful salespeople started with nothing except an intense desire to succeed. They didn’t have a degree and they were often broke when they got into sales. But they had a lot of drive.
[Note: I must add one more item to the big three sales success requirements mentioned in the first paragraph. To be successful at sales, or anything else, you have to have integrity. How important is integrity? To this day Samurai descendents value integrity above their own lives. Some call it honor, honesty, virtue, truthfulness, or dependability. Integrity is all those things, and more. Without integrity, salesmanship can easily be reduced to the level of scamming. With integrity, you can achieve incredibly high levels of success in sales, and in life.]

WHERE ARE THE ENERGY SALES POSITIONS?
If you are interested in sales positions in the energy sector there are two great places you can start. Both are loaded with new energy technologies. Both are located in your area. And both need professional, energy oriented salespeople.
If you look online or in the Help Wanted section of almost any paper in the U.S. you will find a number of listings for real estate sales and car sales. If you don’t have any sales experience, either of these sales positions is a great place to get that experience while at the same time being involved with two products (buildings and autos) that use cutting edge energy technologies.
REAL ESTATE SALES
The energy ideal of today is the zero energy home that consumes no more energy than it produces. The new energy homes can provide extraordinarily high energy efficiencies while maintaining the highest level of comfort and technological ease on earth. Homes can achieve these wonders with technologies that are here now, and make economic sense.
In an age when energy bills can equal or even exceed house payments, real estate sales professionals who know how to minimize energy costs have a big advantage.
If you’re interested in a career in real estate sales just walk into a real estate office in your area and tell them you want to join the sales team. The broker in charge will probably tell you that you need to study for, and take the State exam to obtain a Realtor’s License.
Don’t be intimidated. Getting the license is actually the easy part. Once you get the license, you’ll go to work learning the many skills needed for sales success. As you learn your new profession, start learning about the new energy standards as they apply to real estate.

You’ll soon discover that if you can educate both sellers and buyers about the incredible value that comes from energy efficient buildings, you will have a big edge on the competition.
It’s no secret that automobiles are huge energy consumers.
It’s also no secret that that energy is ridiculously expensive.
Those facts create an opportunity.
Energy costs now play a more important role than ever in a car buyer’s purchase decision. The energy savvy car salesperson that knows how to help customers pick the right car with the right energy technology has an important edge on the competition (and the right car isn’t necessarily the smallest).
Open just about any newspaper in America on any given day and you’ll find a number of automobile sales positions that need to be filled. Or you can just walk into a local car dealer and let them know that you want to sell cars.
In car sales, you have an opportunity to make a serious impact on energy use. You can start by using information found right here at Energy Consumers Edge to make a free booklet showing customers how to drastically reduce energy expenses on any car they own.
These pages will help get you started:

pages you’ll find information about the many engine options for your customer’s needs. You’ll also find other information that can help make you both a consumer’s friend, and a successful salesperson.
After you’ve developed a good sales record you can start searching for energy sales positions more in line with what you originally envisioned.
A lot of energy sales positions require an engineering degree, or at least the ad states that an engineering degree is required.
As a successful salesperson with a passion for a given energy product, you possess two critical qualifications - product passion, and proven, successful sales skills.
Once you attain sales success for, say, two or three years in real estate or car sales, you can approach any energy technology company you choose with a dialogue similar to this:
[Yes, I understand that you want a salesperson with an engineering background. But you also need a salesperson with a passion for your product. And you must have a salesperson that can close deals.
While I may not have the degree you want, I do offer a lot of relevant engineering knowledge, and more. I have a proven, successful sales record. I have followed your company for several years with a great deal of interest. I have a developed a deep level of understanding of your product. And maybe most important, I am truly excited about your product, that’s why I’m here today.
(NOTE: Do NOT say any of these things unless they are true!!)
I submit that you will find it relatively simple to help me attain any remaining engineering skills that I might need to be successful selling your product. You will find it far more difficult to help a degreed engineer acquire the necessary sales skills. And there is no way you can teach anyone to have a passion for your product, a passion that I already possess. (Be absolutely sure that you know why you are passionate about that product!)
When you add it all up, you’ll find that nobody has all of the skills you need, and I offer the ones that are most difficult, and expensive for you to find or develop in an employee.]
Put the decision in your prospective employers hands.
Even if your prospective employer does turn you down, you will probably already have a second choice in hand, and a third, and so on. Somewhere on that list (and you do need to make that list) will be the career you already possess, and you may be surprised at how close it is to the top of the list.
The worst that can happen is that you work down that prospective employer list until you come to your present career. By that time you may even find that you prefer to stay just where you are.
Either way, you’ll play an important role in creating a secure energy future, and earn a great living in the process.
